Flute
~and Piccolo~

Ah...the flute. I've been playing the flute since I was in 5th grade, making it almost 7 years so far! I absolutely love the flute and everything about it. I currently have a Pearl Flute. I play flute in our school Wind Ensemble and I take lessons with Barbara Koskos. Wind Ensemble is one of the highlights of my school day. We play pieces such as Holst, Sousa, Joio, Hilliard, and many other great composers. We play some great songs, and I'm hoping we'll get to play Jupiter from "The Planets"
this year! When Mr. Holod handed the music out I was instantly in an incredible mood. Holst is such an amazing composer, and from The Planets, Jupiter is definitely one of the best, if not the best movement(s). The only trouble is that it's an extremely challenging piece in music. Luckily, I won't have any problem practicing it constantly. Currently, I play first flute. Next year, I really hope to play flute as well as piccolo in the group. It would really be a dream come true. :)

This year, on the flute, I am going to be playing the II, and III movements from Boccherini's Concerto in D Major. I'm really excited because it's an All State audition. I highly doubt I'll get in, but it's worth a shot. Last year I played a Level 5 (Telemann's Suite in A Minor, movements I, IV,and V) and did really well...I got a 98. I hope I do as well on a level 6...it would be really amazing if I got into All State. It's really hard for flutes since so many more people play flute than say...Contra Bass Clarinet. Haha. It's a really fun piece to play and I hope that I get it to sound really impressive. The second movement is so beautiful, especially the trills in the one part with the descending sixteenth notes. The third movement is really cute and perky. So it's insanely fun. It's really fast though, and in the last part of the movement, it's impossible right now for me to play the sixteenth notes up to speed...at a half note equalling 80 (quarter
note at 160). But, considering NYSSMA is in May, I think I've got enough time. (I'm also doing a All State audition voice solo that I'm even more excited about. I'm singing the Soprano aria "Mein Gläubiges Herze" from the Bach contata "Also hat Gott die Welt geliebt" (BWV 68). It is really a great aria. When I first heard Stephanie sing it I knew that I wanted to sing that solo. But back to flute....) So yeah, I can't wait until NYSSMA!

Ahh...the piccolo. I love the piccolo a lot...sometimes I think maybe even more than the flute!! Crazy, huh? Well, a little about my piccolo. It's a Gemeinhardt 4P, plastic piccolo. I've had if for...some amount of months.... It's wonderful and the best piccolo in the world! And...it has a name :). I call him Tootle. Perfect isn't it? I named him after the best children's book in the world, Tootle. Lol. I'm pretty much constatly playing my piccolo...which is good because I improve quickly.
This year, I'm playing my first piccolo NYSSMA solo. I'm going to be doing a level 5, because it would be too stressful to prepare three level 6 solos. I'm going to do the second movement of Telemann's Fantasies. It's really pretty and fun. There's a Grave section, a Vivace an Andante and an Allegro. So it's a nice mix. I'm really looking forward to doing this one, because maybe if I do really well it will help my chances of being the main piccolo player in Wind Ensemble next year. I really hope that that's the case. I will have to play it for Mr. Holod before NYSSMA and then he'll see my score. So hopefully it affects his decision positively. Like I've said...it would be a dream come true...really. But, I really don't want to think about next year yet. I want this year to last...a long time. This year we're losing so many seniors...what if I never see them again? Alright, this page is supposed to be about me! Lol. Okay. Piccolo. Wind Ensemble. Love! Okay, well that's all I have to write for now. I hope you enjoyed reading this and please enjoy the rest of my site! :) (addition) So all of my solos are going really well. I'm very happy about it, because every year as I do a solo, I improve so much. Barbara is really proud of me...I'm really proud of me! It's really exciting to see how far I've come in the past few months and
definitely in the past...almost two years now. I've just improved so drastically. It's very exciting. Oh! Breaking news!! I finally named my flute last night at around 10pm. Her name is Rhiannon. Rhia for short. :) I guess we kind of "bonded" last night. Lol. I'm just really happy, because I've had her for a year and a half now and I never named her, whereas I named my piccolo after about a week and a half, lol. Okay, all for now! Take care :)
